NEL CASO DOBBIATE resettare la PRAM (memoria ram parametrica) o la SMC (system management controller) del vostro MacBook Air (il computer che utilizzo, la procedura varia per gli altri modelli), ci sono alcune cose che dovete sapere. La prima è quando farlo (compresi i modi per evitare di doverlo fare), e la seconda è come farlo. In breve:

SMC RESET

• Shut down the computer.
• Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
• On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
• Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
• Press the power button to turn on the computer.

PRAM RESET

• Shut down the computer.
• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step
• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
• Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
• Release the keys.

Per chi non lo sapesse: Command è il tasto con il simbolo del campeggio svedese che viene equiparato alla mela sulle tastiere Apple; Control è il tasto Ctrl mentre Option è in realtà il tasto Alt con il simbolo del piccione di profilo (perlomeno, a me pare un piccione di profilo, con il muso a sinistra).

Parlando di Apple, siamo alla terza o quarta beta della versione 10.11.1, che c’è chi dice sia un sistema alquanto “buggoso”, mentre in realtà lo trovo molto ricco di funzionalità e cose da scoprire. Interessante in questi giorni notare lo spazio che hanno avuto alcuni giornalisti americani - quattro in tutto, ma il più bravo è Steven Levy - per accedere al laboratorio dove Apple ha progettato i nuovi iMac appena lanciati.

Apple in questo momento parrebbe avere quella che viene definita un “insormontable platform advantage”, che in realtà non è “insormontabile” (niente è insormontabile o irraggiungibile o insuperabile nella tecnologia) quanto “straordinario”. Si sta allargando anche nel settore aziendale. E ha fatto la mossa giusta con la nuova Apple Tv.

L’importante è che non vengano fuse insieme le due piattaforme, iOS e OS X (ma Tim Cook non lo vuole fare, a quanto pare). Piuttosto, nuove partnership come quella per i pagamenti con Starbucks parrebbero essere l’obiettivo principale. Anche perché Apple è diventata sempre meno una product company e si focalizza sempre più sui servizi. Anche se la musica non va benissimo. Soprattutto il player (iTunes) secondo me adesso ha problemi: qui una serie di alternative per iOS.

Invece, parlando di scrittura e di Markdown, questo è uno strumento online per convertire i Doc e Docx in MD (c’è anche la versione da scaricare offline). Se ne parlava qui, ma il discorso è più ampio ed ha a che fare con il cambiamento di paradigma per quanto riguarda il consumo e quindi la filiera produttiva della creazione del testo (Apple ha qualche idea sul tema, a quanto pare).

Sul lato tecnico, personalmente non la condivido appieno ma The Sweet Setup ha una lista di app preferite per scrivere su iPad.

Invece sono completamente d’accordo con l’idea alla base di questo pezzo secondo il quale The first great works of digital literature are already being written:

E se invece la Silicon Valley fosse in piena bolla? L’ipotesi è meno campata in aria di quel che sembra:

Trovo simpatica l’idea che si possa leggere il business model di molte nuove startup come un “how to replace mom”. Invece Evernote è davvero in difficoltà, a quanto pare. E se ci sono pezzi elegiaci sulla nuova Microsoft, (ma ci sono anche opinioni differenti: “The problem facing OEMs is this: there is no alternative to Windows for a mass market PC”) forse vuol dire che la bolla sta davvero arrivando.
