C'è una guerra in corso là fuori, e tu non lo sapevi...

ADESSO ARRIVA NATALE, ci mettiamo tutti a tavola con la famiglia, mangiamo l'arrosto e il panettone. Magari ci arrabbiamo per le cose brutte del mondo, le guerre e gli scontri veri. Oppure siamo coinvolti nel business o nello sport, e facciamo il tifo per le guerre tra "persone civili" (i russi che cambiano di mano a un pezzo degli impianti petroliferi, due direttori di quotidiani italiani cambiati in sette giorni sette). Insomma, è la vita...

La mia piccola storiella di Natale riguarda una battaglia di cui forse non avete sentito parlare. La guerra al peertopeer, cioè P2P, quelli che scambiano i file attraverso Internet. C'è un mondo, là fuori, che ha cambiato il modo con il quale funziona l'industria dell'intrattenimento. Prima le canzoni, i programmi, adesso i telefilm e i film. Insomma, ditemi qualcosa che avete visto o sentito in televisione, e probabilmente lo troviamo su Internet.

Da una parte, qualche centinaio di migliaia di "scambisti", guidati da pochi siti e abili programmatori che stanno creando nuove e più efficienti modalità di scambio dei file. Dall'altro, artisti in crisi, industrie allo stremo, avvocati allupati. Scena: gli Stati Uniti. Ma non solo. Stanno fioccando arresti, ingiunzioni, perquisizioni un po' da tutte le parti. Uno dei principali siti dedicati alla raccolta dei "semi" da piantare per poi ottenere dalla collettività il file (film, telefilm, software o quel che è), è saltato per aria. E' l'attacco (probabilmente condotto sia con armi legali che con qualche tecnica un po' "obliqua") dei titolari dei diritti.

Ma la rete si attrezza e cerca di reagire: leggete un po' cosa scrivono i partigiani del libero scambio, tra le pieghe di Internet...

TorrentBits.org and SuprNova.org Go Dark

Numerous people wrote in with similar stories: "Without providing a reason, both of these sites have shut down: SuprNova.org and TorrentBits.org." We mentioned a few days ago that the MPAA was going after Bittorrent sites

I think they are getting way too many members to cope with at the moment (with TB and suprnova going down). They got about 15,000 in 12 hours (went from 140,000 last night to 155,000 this morning when I checked).

This is going to be a huge issue for all the new/small torrents sites - how do they work with the load that millions of new users demand?

BTW: If you have an IRC client, you can join #bt, #bt-gm and #tvtorrents on efnet. #bt and #tvtorrents serves TV show torrents and #bt-gm serves torrents for games and movies.

Since it's IRC it stands a somewhat better chance of surviving.

The only way these sites will be able to remain online is to host them on servers out of European and American jurisdiction.

I'm a system administrator here in Saint Petersburg, Russia for an ISP that I'm a founding member of (even though I'm not Russian). I've got oodles of bandwidth, and would love to host a popular torrent site (especially because I rely on these torrents to escape from having to watch Russian television).

Is anyone interested in teaming up with me so we can get the torrents back on the web without legal worry?
